Currently Potlatch has a function to repeat tags from the previously selected way. This is quite useful. There was a GNIS import recently which stuck a lot of POIs in the db. Some of these features I had already mapped, either as nodes or ways. It would be nice to be able to use 'R' to copy the tags from the GNIS imported node onto my existing mapped node or way.

There'll be a method to copy tags from one object (e.g. way) to another of a different type (e.g. POI) in the next version of Potlatch, though not with the R key.
