It would be very neat if mapnik would examine the width tag while rendering a wall.

I am mapping castle floorplans and enter the castle's wall using barrier=wall and specifying a width. You can find an example [http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=47.003062&lon=9.565328&zoom=18&layers=B000FTF here]. It would be extremely cool if the castle's wall thickness would be properly rendered.

Anyway thanks for the good work.

A second example is [http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=46.780548&lon=9.13849&zoom=18&layers=B000FTFT castle Jrgenberg].

Same for barrier=city_wall please. Or maybe generally use a thicker line for these. City walls almost always are some meters thick.

Calculating the number of pixels given a size in metres is not trivial (it depends on the zoomlevel). I will therefore close this as wontfix.
