Apparently a waterway should be drawn in the direction of flow, and tagging it oneway=yes offends baby Buddha. So let's render the direction of flow and see how many are mapped "incorrectly" by people who didn't know about this convention.

This convention is very old and probably exists since the beginning of waterways on the wiki. Unfortunately some people noticed an arrow on mapnik when the oneway tag was added on waterways and decided to use it to indicate the water flow. This is a good example of "tagging for the renderer" since the tag is originally an access tag for roads which can be also used on waterways where boats have to nagivate in oneway direction.

We will certainly not implicitly render flow direction solely based on the OSM way direction. Flow isn't always that predictable, and can even reverse, due to tides or man made influences (locks for example).

I've seen mention of an explicit flow direction tag. What was that one again?
