I think it's supposed to look like a gps receiver. This would need a better button, maybe a few dotted lines crossing or so.

I agree it's confusing, but the mouse-over does at least clarify the situation.

Maybe it should be some orbit lines around a globe. But then it might look too much like an atom...

How about a dish-antenna? Not literally illustrative of GPS, but it does convey the general idea of "satellite".

Potlatch 2 is now out. "GPS data" is now a menu option on vector dropdown.
