I often reuse nodes for several things, e.g. a track along the edge of a forest, or a tram along a highway. In Merkaartor, it's not possible to selectively pick a specific way though (AFAIK).

I would almost consider this a must-fix-before-0.11 - if one comes across such a situation, there just isn't a way to handle it in Merkaartor (short of deleting a way and looking if there is one underneath).

Ticket #858 is somewhat related to that.

I agree there is improvements to be done re gui selection of objects.

Depending on what you want to do, you can always drag a selection around both ways and selecting the one you want from the list in the properties dock.

I will consider this a major (i.e. to be fixed before 0.11) if there really is no workaround for the intended goal.

(In [11142]) ADD : "locked selection". Pressing "Tab" enters lock mode. In this mode, only the features around last click can be selected. Repeatedly press "Tab" to select them in cycle. Quite experimental, so expect problems... (closes #1021, closes #858)
ADD : when hovering/focussing a feature, its parents appear in dotted lines
FIX : initial viewport is really the one from previous session
