I wonder if highway=bus_guideway (c/f Map_features) this could be put into the Mapnik rendering in preparation for the opening of the Cambridgeshire scheme in a few months time. This is likely to get national, even international, news coverage, so it would be really nice to have it on the map from the opening day (along with the cycleway which runs alongside).

It's a radically different kind of highway from anything else. I suggest a deep blue and white dash with a blue casement (like railways but blue).

Incidentally highway=construction, construction=bus_guideway is already in place for part of this: see http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=52.17784&lon=0.12832&zoom=16&layers=B00FTF

Visiting relatives in Willingham the other day I noticed the section up there and was intrigued - is it same thing? (not mapped yet though?). Will work on a symbolisation similar to your suggestion and show you a draft when it is done.

Yes, it's the same. It's in two sections: from Trumpington P&R site in the south to the Station and then the main section from the Science Park in the north to St Ives, following the line of the old railway. It's two paralell concrete troughs plus a serive road cum cycle track alongside.

Construction style works at mo. For the bus_guideway I envisage a symbol type somewhere between existing road and railway. Can you send me a sketch of what you envisaged? A coloured crayon job, scanned would be fine. I will then try a render in readiness. When is it due to open?

I've attached a suggestion. I guess it will need to reduce to a dark blue line at zoom 12 and above.

It's due to open in spring next year (2009).

This seems to have been added ages ago, for z12+ at least.

... unlike the busway itself, which is now 2 years late opening. It really does look like it will open in June now, though a court case with the contractors will drag on for years.
