Can we move the pan/zoom controls out of the HTML page and into the applet? Currently, pan/zoom causes an applet reload, which is slow and causes loss of context (tool currently selected, node display size setting, possibly more?)

It's hard to decide whether a pan/zoom mode like the slippy interface would be better (allows you to position the window exactly where you want it, but would mean having to deselect the current tool to enter pan/zoom mode), or arrow buttons like in the HTML page (which would leave the current tool selected, but give a much coarser degree of control).

I like the panning with shift-drag, and zoom with '[' and ']' - however, zooming seems to undo any panning done since the applet was started, that is to say, it doesn't operate on what you're currently looking at.
