http://openstreetmap.org/edit?lat=0&lon=0&zoom=17 should take you to the convergence of the equator with the prime meridian. It actually takes you (as a hover on the "View" tab will show) to 51.5E on the equator.

It was suggested that this is related to login issues. Whether or not I have to log in between viewing and editing, I am always transferred to the correct location, except for the co-ordinates (0,0) when I am always transferred to the incorrect location, on any computer I use.

This is reliably repeatable.

see http://trac.openstreetmap.org/browser/applications/editors/potlatch/start.as#L53

Can probably just take that line of code out and move the startPotlatch() call to after parseGPX().
