Names for ways rendered on top of each other, sometimes users try to avoid this by splitting ways, where it is not necessary.

See here for example, when you scroll around in the map you may find a lot of other examples for this problem.

maybe this is also related to this problem, first character is cut away:

maybe there can be left a space if a name crosses a junction, or some collision avoiding?

There is a Perl script called osm-svg-beautifier.pl that can help on this issue, see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Osmarender/TextFitting
