The Homer Babbidge Library is defined on an area, not just a node, but the building isn't drawn. Also, not all of the libraries linked to in the original report are drawn.

Further investigation suggests that it might be due to the area not being explicitly tagged with building=yes. (I'll find out when it refreshes.) Is there any conceivable reason for not making it implicit? The presets in JOSM for library, post office, theather and probably some others don't automatically set the building tag. Should this be fixed in the renderer or in JOSM?

Libraries (specifically a node with amenity=library) show on osmarender but not mapnik.
Examples:
Forbes Library is the public library of Northampton, MA, USA:

There are many libraries here (Boston, MA, USA): http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=42.33889&lon=-71.09373&zoom=17&layers=0B00FTF
The Reed Free Library in Surry, NH, USA even has the ref parameter set: http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=43.01949&lon=-72.32138&zoom=17&layers=0B00FTFT
