The openstreetmap.org search box gives some examples including 'Regent Street, Cambridge'. So I expected that searching for 'Long Lane, London' would return streets called Long Lane in or near places called London. However, it returns lots of results which do not match that:

1. Most of the result is for places and streets not called Long Lane but just something vaguely like it, and the real matches are mostly the last ones shown. A fuzzy match is sometimes useful but if used, the exact matches should appear at the top of the list.

2. Most of the results are not in any place called London.

Oddly, if you query just for 'long lane' then many of the same results are returned but the London streets seem to be missed out.
