I think it would be very useful to have man_made tower symbol rendered in map. It is usually POI and is very useful for navigation as it can be seen from far distances. An example location is for example http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=49.7448&lon=14.34262&zoom=16&layers=B000FTF . The tower is located on top of the hill right next to the small building in which the backplane for GSM BTS tower resides. If there is no symbol available yet, I can draw some. I suppose to render the symbol from zoom 13 and greater.

I second this ticket.
Towers are the primary example for landmarks so I also think they should really be rendered by the Mapnik style.

One short reminder: you allready render man_made=mast that is deprecated

So you might want to change it to tower?

I support this change request. towers are very important landmarks and should appear on the map.

Nobody is keeping you from adding these to OSM. Whether we will render all or some of them is another question.

To clarify my last comment: we cannot filter on tower:type yet. That's a major reason why we're not rendering them yet.

I support this request, cause different objects with same heigths get rendered already: power poles, water_towers, ....
But I agree, that it should become a very simple icon

I'm disappointed that three years later, towers are still not being rendered.

I second this request, large towers can be very helpful in navigation.

I've added a symbol (SVG) for "man_made=chimney" as this is as well a tower.
