using tools->WMS server editor, i've adjusted a server address.
unfortunately, this does not have any effect on the layer in which this WMS server happens to be selected (i see the old address continuing being used in the squid access.log file).
toggling the visibility does not help.
selecting the the (already selected) WMS server helps.
i guess this is because a copy and not a reference is used in the layers...?
