Here you can see the effect: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=56.28&lon=43.85&zoom=6&layers=0B00FTF
[[BR]] There are three cities: "" (Zavolzhie = Z), "" (Dzerzhinsk = D) and " " (Nizhnij Novgorod = NN).
[[BR]]At zoom level 6 there is name of Z visible and A_TAIL of NN name (this ticket's bug).
[[BR]]At zoom level 7 only D name is visible (I'm going to open another ticket for missing Z name)
[[BR]]At zoom level 8 only Z and NN names are visible
[[BR]]At zoom level 9 finally all three are correctly rendered.

Yep, that is a major deficiency with the label suppression algorithm. It essentially suppresses labels at random and on 2 neighboring tiles it can decide to suppress different cities which leads to that output. Solving that would require improvements in or/p. If there are any takers for that I would be very grateful.
