Namefinder cannot find street Obloukov athought it exist in database:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/4647044

If you type Obloukov in search form, it returns: No results found

I have experienced the same problem with Schwanhorstberg, Axstedt.

Maybe because it was first handled by Mapnik (on Wednesday) and later by Osmarender.

Maybe it would be a good idea to create a new database with all entries, not just adding the latest modifications from Osmarender.

I don't think the namefinder database has been updated for some time, which probably explains this.

Neither mapnik nor osmarender have anything to do with the namefinder database.

Second observation:

I changed Barbianstrasse in Chur to Barblanstrasse, but namefinder didn't accept that correction.

I don't know whether the bug is related: When I search in http://www.openstreetmap.org for

israel jerusalem yad harutzim

I get nothing, but if I search only for
yad harutzim

The street is found correctly.

Should I file separate bug on that?

I have the same problem. For example "vihermentie, espoo" or just "vihermentie" finds nothing. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/29260538

Any update on the bug?

I would raise priority of all search related bugs, as users who had any remnants of trust in OSM map service simply switch to different mapping services, with no hope of coming back...

You are aware that there is a new search engine operating on the web site now alongside namefinder I assume?

No, I just enter http://www.openstreetmap.org and type there the search query. This is the way 99% of users do the search on the site I guess.

See my note from 08/18/09 20:07:36

Also, today I did search for Rechovot and haven't got any results. Once I found it manually, I saw that the city had en:name tag "Rehovot". IMHO, the search engine must be smart enough to attempt to search for similar names (by substituting "ch" with "h" or replacing dash with space (New-York="New York"), or substitute all these european languages characters with diacritics with their english similarly-looking equivalents...).

The search box on the main page does use both engines, but nominatim (the new engine) only does exact matches at the moment - the author is still working on getting it to do near matches like that. I believe it does ignore diacritical marks however.
