This definitely has something to do with the nobicycle rendering.

I did some quick messing around with the SVG and it looks like the problem at least becomes less visible if I add stroke-miterlimit: 0.1 to the css styles.

Thanks for testing.
I added the limit 0.1 now at version 15278

I also made some other small changes, so im example 1 the rendering dissappears, because everyone knows, that he can't bike up and down a highway=steps ;-)
(bicycle=no was already NOT rendered for footways and some others...)
