After a variable time of editing on Potlatch (using 'edit with save' mode), when saving I get the error message "Sorry - the connection to the OpenStreetMap server failed", along with the dreaded red triangle in the corner. Once this error occurs, there seems to be no way to save the changes made. I have tried clicking on 'retry', also clicking on cancel, waiting a few minutes, then trying again, but I still get the message - it seems to be a permanent connection failure that is only 'cured' by reloading the edit window (losing the last change). It seems more common when there are several ways to upload at once, but sometimes even uploading a single way at the start of the session can be enough to set off the problem. (Potlatch still 'knows' there are unsaved changes.) This happens both at home (MacOS 10.5) and at work (Windows XP).

It looks like someone else is having the same problem (see Ticket #1904).

When you click 'retry', could you confim when the error appears again - is it immediately (i.e. no round-trip to the server), or after a few seconds (i.e. after a dialogue with the server)?

It happens fairly quickly - the uploading box comes up, and about one and a half seconds later (I tried timing it) the error pops up (not immediate).

Hm, ok. That sounds like a server error that's not being trapped, then, which shouldn't really happen.

Moving to #1904 to avoid duplication.
