Ways which are tagged with sport=climbing, and sport=skiing are assumed to be areas and rendered as non-closed areas in Osmarender. This accords with the wiki which provides nodes and areas for both sports, but not with real life. This results in such tags being removed to improve rendering, and consquently lowers the value of the map data. An example is at [www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=53.07808&lon=-4.08362&zoom=15&layers=0B00FTF Clogwyn Du'r Arddu].

I intend to amend the wiki to allow ways to be tagged for route-based sports (such as kayaking, white-water rafting, in-line skating etc., as well as climbing and skiing), and would like Osmarender to behave appropriately in these cases (icon on mid-point of way, perhaps). In the meantime the inappropriate rendering should be suppressed.

As a quick fix I disabled area fill for nonclosed ways tagged with k=sport in revision 15884. As soon as we have suitable icons for climbing, etc. I can add rules to display them on the ways.
