That rather misunderstands how the email notifications work - there is no "subscription" to anything. It's just that commenting on a post sends an email to the author of the post.
What your suggestion amounts to is that we should send an email to anybody that had commented on the post as well as it's author. That might be rather annoying if the new comment was not related to your comment however...

I know how they work now, this is a suggestion to expand the feature so that it works a bit differently.

Not everybody, but have a "Notify me by email of further comments to this post" checkbox when posting new comments / viewing posts.

It's easy to miss replies to your comments on other user's diary entries since there isn't a way to have updates E-Mailed to you via the notifier.
