I have an OpenMoko Freerunner with a GPS chip in it. It runs Debian GNU/Linux and gpsd, listening on a standard port. When I plug it into my laptop USB port, I get an Ethernet-over-USB connection. Sometimes I'd like to use the GPS chip on the Freerunner in conjunction with my laptop. With TangoGPS I can do that (specify IP/host and port number), but Merkaartor seems to require a serial port.
