In the Google map there are icons for GS25 (centre top) and Buy the Way (centre bottom). These shops are present in OSM data, tagged with 'shop=convenience' and 'name=*', but they are not rendered in the Mapnik layer.
Additionally, as you can see, the Google map uses the company logo at each point (another highly-recognisable one is FamilyMart). I suggest that a generic icon would be great, but I wonder about 'official' logos later on. I suppose the 'operator=*' tag should be used to indicate this.

Convenience stores make good landmarks for local map viewing.
For example:
