mapnik fails to render roads at scales greater than about 1:1000 #2248

The javascript on the export tab which calculates the image size and show the minimum scale to the user show to high scales for mapnik. This leads in server errors, like scale 1:53 or trashed output with scale like 1:510.

There should be a maximum scale which is useful like 1000.

Can you explain why 1:53 or 1:510 is a problem? I don't see any obvious reason why they shouldn't work, or be appropriate for a large enough area.

I think I see the problem here - even if you select a small enough area for 1:53 or whatever to be valid you often don't get anything in the resulting image because our mapnik stylesheet seems to stop drawing any roads at scales greater than about 1:1000.

I guess that's a mapnik bug really...

r23352 makes the minscale_zoom18 entity a no-op, so rendering doesn't end at 1:1000. Should solve the issue you're experiencing in the export tab.
