Hello,

i wish user could choose the UI language on his own. Maybe in some drop-down menu, or by a URL parameter.

The Action Script's property System.capabilities.language has two issues. It doesn't recognize some languages (ex.SK for Slovak) and its considered by the "operating system language", so often the user wont get his native language.

Thanks,
Pavel

This is not a potlatch issue - the language potlatch uses comes from the user's profile which in turn defaults to what the browser sends.

There is a general issue with the web site that a user that is not logged in cannot override the browser language, but in this case you're using potlatch so you must be logged in and you can then choose your language by setting your preferred language in your user settings.

Thanks for clarifying, i had an information from the wiki. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Category:Potlatch_translation

It says, Potlatch get language from "System.capabilities.language" property in Action Script, which behaves badly sometimes.

This way its all good :)

btw, 1) is it possible to translate UI of the the main OSM website?
2) should i fill a new ticket for adding possibility to change the preffered language through some drop-down menu on the website?

That is out of date - Potlatch was translatable before the rest of the site and it now uses the same setting as the rest of the site to get the language.

The UI is translatable, yes - see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Website_Internationalization for more information.

The issue of setting preferred language when you're not logged in is sort of covered by ticket #1941 already.
