Certain languages have really long strings for "History", "GPS tracks" etc. which will collide with the user bar unless the browser window is really wide. With my username and Finnish for example I have to have a 1280px wide browser window before the "User blogs" link stops popping under the map.

In [http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Main_Page MediaWiki] this problem is solved by having the navigation tabs slightly lower than the user links. This wastes a bit of space but at least the won't collide.

Attached is a patch which does this for OSM. It'll always waste an additional 20px of space at the top of the screen just so they won't collide. Perhaps this could be improved by using smaller fonts (like MediaWiki) or some CSS alchemy so that the user tabs only pop on top of the navigation tabs when they run out of space.

This should hopefully be fixed by the redesign which went live today, as the top bar now adjusts in a responsive way to the available space.
