I'm not sure which software is causing the problem and have reported this on Ubuntu launchpad also. The mouse movements are random, magnified and virtually uncontrollable when editing using Potlatch, Firefox 3.5.5 and Ubuntu 9.10. (also when entering this text). Elsewhere things are relatively normal. This is a new phenomenon since Firefox and Ubuntu were upgraded

Update - found that Ubuntu 9.10 was setting screen resolution to outside monitor limits. I don't know if this is a nvidia problem or a Ubuntu one. Even the Ubuntu Checkbox tester does this despite the user settings, leaving them changed. No apparent problems with Potlatch.

Resolved - The problem was tracked down to a radio interference from a recently purchased LaCie USB drive transformer!
