#2510 closed enhancement (fixed)

Order of coordinates for viewbox parameter

Reported by: Xoff Owned by: openstreetmap@…
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: nominatim Version:
Keywords: Cc:

Description

It would be nice if the order of the coordinates for the viewbox parameter could be changed to left, bottom, right, top. This would allow to use e.g. Openlayers' toBBOX() function to conveniently create the value for the viewbox parameter. It would also make nominatim using the same convention as Xapi and the OSM-Api (see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bbox).

I've added an extra param, viewboxlbrt, which will accept the points in that order although I've not tested it properly yet.

I was just noticing this 'viewboxlbrt' parameter on the wiki parameter docs, but the fun thing is... both viewbox and viewboxlbrt parameters accept the top and bottom either way round!

All of the following work ok:

Likewise left and right can happily be swapped around.

Twain added viewboxlbrt parameter 6 years ago. I imagine maybe it became min/max agnostic in recent times. Is it a bug? not really. ...it's a good thing!

But it seems to mean that the 'viewboxlbrt' parameter could be quietly dropped from the docs (deprecated) It seems to be pointless.

The way it works now, any two opposite points in the viewbox will do. I've changed the documentation but the viewboxlbrt parameter will continued to be accepted.
