I just checked, and the path seems to be labeled. If you just added the name (path was already there), rendering may have taken a while. Otherwise, maybe you weren't the only one concerned about sparse labels.

This is a cycleway with name="Alderstone Path". It goes S/SE for over 1km before the name is rendered here http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=55.893029&lon=-3.52849&zoom=18&layers=B000FTF
At a lower zoom level e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=55.89434&lon=-3.53042&zoom=17&layers=B000FTF there is no name at all. Why is the intersecting "Peel Path" labelled with a name at this zoom level, but not the "Alderstone Path"?
