Well given that we don't know the gender of the person you are trying to befriend we need a generic phrase of some sort (in english the masculine pronoun has traditionally been used where gender is uncertain although that is probably contentious these days).
In any case, all our translation is done through TranslateWiki so if you want to improve the translations then head over there - we don't have a team of translators available to process translation errors reported here. You can find us at:

This problem concerns at least the GERMAN translation if not the whole website.
Please note that I am a male user (like 95% of all users) who wants to be called HE, HIS, HIM, as it is inappropriate to call a man SHE, HER, HER.
WRONG: You may add HER as friend - Du kannst SIE als Freund hinzufgen.
RIGHT: You may add HIM as friend - Du kannst IHN als Freund hinzufgen.
WRONG: You may view HER profile - Du kannst IHR Profil ansehen.
RIGHT: You may view HIS profile - Du kannst SEIN Profil ansehen.
Bots and institutions may be called IT, ITS, IT.
