GeoNames also tells:
no records found in geonames database, showing yahoo geocoder first result

It should be also possible to use the google geocoder (works as anonymous):
http://maps.google.com/maps/geo?q=Halberstaedter+Strasse+1,Derenburg,+Germany&output=xml
output can also csv, special chars must be converted (in this case: -> ae, -> ss).

No it is not possible to use the google geocoder - the terms of use require that you display the result on a google map I believe. Anyway, the whole point is to showcase our data! Geonames is really there because historically we didn't have enough data but we could probably get rid of it now.

To get back to the point, not finding the exact position isn't a bug - it probably just means nobody has put in the necessary data yet! It looks like we're finding the right street, so it probably just means that nobody has entered house number data for that street yet - if you want to help then go and add it.
