the current error message in potlatch is this :
\n\nPlease e-mail richard[at]systemeD.net with a bug report, saying what you were doing at the time.

Maybe the text should point people to http://trac.openstreetmap.org/newticket instead, so we can also try and help the users and understand the problems.

Certain errors suggest a mail to richard[at]systemeD.net. Not all. These are generally errors which indicate an inconsistency in amf_controller, perhaps triggered by a server fault. It is more helpful for these errors to come to me directly so that I can immediately summarise and report back to Tom or another sysadmin.

The other case in which this may be reported is an edge case in Potlatch's save model. In this case it is more useful for me to be able to take the user directly through steps to reproduce, which e-mail is more suited to than trac.

if you want to have a mail, would it not be better to have a mailing list for that so that others can help if you go on a long vacation and have no email access?
just a suggestion for robustness,
mike

Sorry, is there an actual problem here? Can you point at an occasion when I went on a long holiday, didn't checking my e-mail, and people couldn't use Potlatch as a result?

there is no problem at all, I was just doing the translation of Potlatch into albanian and encountered this problem. Do you also want albanian emails ? we should setup a mailing list for that at least, so that we can field the errors if they occur, what do you think?

going on a long holiday is a another way of saying, we should avoid a single point of failure http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_point_of_failure

thanks,
mike

Oh for goodness' sake. Google Translate is perfectly fine at translating Albanian into English if needs be.

Do you know how often that error message actually pops up? I do. A vanishingly small number of times. Do you not think I might have considered alternatives (trac, wiki, mailing list, whatever) before settling on the current system? Funnily enough I did.

I have now had to spend more time dealing with your idiot dilettante question than I have had to spend answering such e-mails in the last two months. Please just go away.
