Surely these tool provide some way to escape or delimit the URL though? If they don't and hence make it impossible enter some valid URLs then they're pretty broken...

Surely they have methods to escape, but my reflexion was why these urls contains dash ? All of the url shorter tools doesn't contains dash, why this tools use these specials chars ?

In some blog tools like dotclear and some wikis the double dash is used as a marker. Is it possible to supress them from the short link ?
