[landcover] natural=sand for sand dune areas #3151
Comments
Author: Eimai I disagree with rendering dunes the same as beaches. The two are really different things. |

Well, let's find another way to render it, as long it's visible on the map I'm happy with that :-) |
Author: ligfietser here is a link to one of those areas: |
Author: fsteggink I second this change. I think there should even be a distinction between natural=dune (sandy, hilly area, serving as coastal defense) and natural=sand (other sandy areas). These areas can have some occasional scrub or grass (called "helm" in dutch). |
Author: Ldp I'm tagging those dunes mostly as scrub where there is vegetation, and sand where there's not. Dunes vs. sand is like land use (not the OSM meaning) vs. land cover. In the meantime, natural=sand has been added a while ago, and is rendering. |
Author: tom.davie[at]gmail.com Dunes and scrub are rather different things, it would be nice to have a rendering for them... Perhaps the beach background, with natural=scrub's little grass icons on it. |
Author: math1985 This has been resolved in the meanwhile. |

Frequently used for extensive areas of sand (dunes) in the Netherlands, unlike beaches (see http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zandverstuiving ), These areas are tagged with
natural=sand and can be rendered on mapnik like natural=beach. This is a totally different tag then surface=sand which are used on highways.
