Whenever a way is split (to insert a bridge for example) one section maintains the full edit history, while the other half only lists the user who split the way. This doesn't recognise the previous efforts of others. It would be far better if both halves on either side of the split maintained a full copy of the user edit history with the current user added to the list as per normal. This is also a problem when two ways are joined with the ctrl-click method. I love to have accurate maps, but I feel terrible when I am the only one credited with a previous history going back many years, because I slit a way to insert a bridge or something similar. Thanks.

Duplicating the history when splitting would quickly result in a massive amount of additional data being created. In general you can always reconstruct the exact edit history by specialized tools working on the full history planet. Hence I'm closing this here as won't fix.
