Justin OBeirne made a comparision of label readability between Bing, Google Maps and Yahoo. His results (or at least some of them) should be applied to the mapnik rendering.

I'm not sure that "here's a long article about other sites and I think some of it might apply to your site" really counts as a valid bug report... How exactly would we know when we've fixed it? What percentage of things the article might mention would we have to do?
If you have specific suggestions for things we could do better then I suggest you raise specific bugs for them - those can then be properly considered.
I would note however that most labelling issues of the sort described in the article will be things that need to be addressed in the mapnik core (bug tracker at trac.mapnik.org) rather than in our stylesheet.
