Description

Hi,

would be great if you would exchange the current symbol of caravan sites e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.23465&lon=-1.33204&zoom=17

A caravan means for the most people a complete motor home and not a trailer. On most places for caravan parking trailers are dissallowed. They are handled in a different way at camping sites, too.

Please use this type of icon instead: http://www.absperrtechnik24.de/shop/pix/a/1048-17/n/Nur-Wohnmobile-Nr-1048-17.jpg

thanks a lot for maintaing the stylesheet!

I would disagree with the 'for most people' aspect. For example, I would never call an RV a caravan, but a camper, and so will my countrymen. It might well be different for different countries, but the OSM tagging seems very generic.

So, in your opinion, what's the OSM tag for a place where these trailer thingies you do NOT call caravan would be able to stay overnight?

Ah ok I thought it's an internationalistion problem ;)

Indeed I guess we haven't dedicated place to stay over night with a camper/caravan. We have parking slots where it is allowed to park a camper. But here you can't park your trailer.

Trailers and caravans normally had to go to a campsite here in Germany. But with a camper van you can stay a night on a public parking for one night, without any problems.

I started a proposal long time ago to model camp sites with more details http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Extend_camp_site

Resolution: wontfix
Status: newclosed

This would need more discussion on the semantics of tourism=caravan_site before it is clear how it should be rendered. I will therefore close this issue for now as wontfix.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
