Lanes of dual carriageways merge

Description

When rendering dual carriageways (divided highways) formed by two parallel ways, at intermediate scales the wo ways merge into one thick way. For example, http://labs.metacarta.com/osm/?lat=6798326.13929&lon=32229.18855&zoom=13&layers=B0 (the trunk road and parts of the junction).

I think it would be helpful if the edges are still rendered even if they overlap. This may be the same issue whereby bridges look like junctions - is it perhaps the case that whenever paths overlap, the edge rendering is dropped? I don't think that's correct. Roundabouts and junctions would also be more clearly defined at smaller scales if you didn't do this.
