The geometry of centerline of highways (and cloverleaf interchanges) are usually parts of clothoid.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Track_transition_curve

The user draw street geometry only very coarse ( 4 or 5 points of clothoid highway). The command:
"Change to clothoid" (shortcut alt+c) draw the better adapted geometry of the road.

Which piece of software are you asking for this shortcut to be added to? There are many editors used to edit OpenStreetMap and each has it's own features and key shortcuts...

Are you talking about JOSM? Potlatch? Merkatoor?

I would also add that, at the end of the day, our underlying data model only supports straight line segments so any tools in editors which support easy creation of more complex shapes have to approximate them via straight lines.

I think about JOSM and Potlatch. Of course, the mathematic model (clothoid) should be only use to optimize the geometry (like in Potlatch2 the option "make circular". This is the same idea behind.. Do You speak German?

Well you need to raise bugs separately for JOSM and Potlatch - the JOSM bug tracker can be found here:

http://josm.openstreetmap.de/

Potlatch issues can be raised here, but in the "potlatch2" component please. I will transfer this bug to that component now.

As to German, no I'm afraid I don't really speak enough German to be worth mentioning...
