Hello,

I'm developing an application which uses location data of the user to do a nominatim reverse lookup.
To preserve the privacy of the user, it'd be necessary to send that data over https, else I cannot guarantee that his precise location is leaked, unlike when working with the main site (which unfortunately doesn't do ssl/tls).

OpenStreetMap is not primarily aimed at providing services to applications. It is very unlikely that this will happen since it would significantly increase the overheads involved.

You could try contacting MapQuest (http://developer.mapquest.com/web/products/open/forums/-/message_boards?_19_mbCategoryId=153715) to see if they would be willing to add an ssl option to their api.
