being too impatient to wait i opened potlatch 2 edit mode a second time in the same area while saving for the first instance was still in progress. this resulted in loads of empty nodes on the exact location where i made changes within the first instance of my editing. so, is there a chance to disallow muliple logins to avoid those problems?

The supposedly empty nodes are because nodes are written first, then ways, then relations. You probably logged in when the nodes had been saved but not the ways which use them.
But no, this won't be done. Lots of reasons why not: corner case, easily solvable (just, um, don't do it), doesn't really solve the wider problem (you'd get the same result if someone else was halfway through saving), and a genuine disbenefit - after all, you might want to start editing somewhere else while saving in one area.
Best solution is to donate to OSMF so that it can buy new servers to make saving faster. :)
