[Submitted to the original trac issue database at 8.25pm, Saturday, 19th November 2011]

Nominatim ignores data tagged as alt_name:language.

As of 20.11.2011 reproducible with the city of Tskhinval(i) in South Ossetia. name:ru is , alt_name:ru is . However, searching for does not give the desired result (i.e. the city).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open osm.org
  2. Search for
  3. Look at the Nominatim results. The city is only found by GeoNames.

Works now. Just a case of out-dated data.
