Currently the icon for a hospital is a red cross, however this icon is protected by international and national laws in most countries and may not be used for anything not related to the International Red Cross or a national Red Cross Organization - usually hospitals are not operated by the Red Cross. I suggest a blue square icon with a white letter 'H' in it as a new icon which is internationally recognizable.

Also, the icon for pharmacies, although being pink and not red, can easily be misinterpreted as a red cross and thus should also be changed, e.g. to a green cross, a white cross on green background, or the Rx-Symbol.

It is perfectly fine to use this symbol for indicating hospitals. ("With the exception of the cases mentioned in the following paragraphs of the present Article, the emblem of the red cross on a white ground and the words "Red Cross" or " Geneva Cross " may not be employed, either in time of peace or in time of war, except to indicate or to protect the medical units and establishments, the personnel and material protected by the present Convention and other Conventions dealing with similar matters.").
