Add rendering for place=neighbourhood, place=quarter #4191
Comments
Author: NE2 Support neighbourhood but oppose quarter (seeing as the proposal is problematic: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/place%3Dquarter#Vote). Also oppose rendering boundaries, which are often ill-defined (and don't get rendered for any other place=* anyway unless boundary=* is set). But there's a bigger problem: landuse=residential name=* renders properly, but if you add place=neighbourhood to this, the name no longer shows up. Because of this, I'm bumping the priority up to major and changing it from enhancement to defect. |
Author: skorasaurus I forgot about this and really support seeing at least place=neighborhood being rendered. |
Author: ElliottPlack This is definitely a major issue. Mappers that work in big American cities want to see their changes to neighborhoods reflected on the map. Thus, they're using place=suburb or =hamlet inappropriately. When I first started adding neighborhoods, I use the name=* on landuse=residential to name neighborhoods. I'll need to go back through with JOSM and correct these. Notwithstanding, it'd be great to see this on the map soon! |
Author: Michael Zajac NE2, if a place has administrative boundaries, then I will map them and they should be rendered. If it doesn't, then I will only map the place node. (My home city has neighbourhoods, neighbourhood clusters, community areas, wards, and community committees, with boundaries defined by bylaws.) The conflict between neighbourhood and name is a bug, and perhaps it should be filed separately from this enhancement request. Using a shared boundary for corresponding landuse and place sounds like a good optimization of the map data. |

Please, make this render. Otherwise user will use landuse with names which is tagging for the renderer and looks really ugly with multipolygons. |
Author: Federico Explorador +10 Because this tag is not rendered, mappers map for the renderer, i.e. putting "suburb" instead of neighbourhood, which is not right. So... this issue should not be postponed. |
Author: compdude Why is this still not rendered? Please render it ASAP, for reasons mentioned above. Thank you! |
Author: jaloonz[at]gmail.com Why is there no progress on this? It has been more than 1.5 years and till date such nodes are still not rendered. Or does the lack of progress suggest that we re-tag those nodes back to place=hamlet or equivalent? |
Author: Geoplace Replying to [comment:13 jaloonz@]:
I'm agree. It is frustating not see the name on the map when using place=neighborhood and landuse=residential tag combination. |
Author: Andy Allan Fixed in gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto@e4af98c And please, everyone, show some patience with these things. Complaining about lack of progress doesn't actually fix anything any quicker. |

Place=neighbourhood has been accepted as a city administrative subdivision, below place=suburb (and the in-progress place=quarter). Rendering of the relevant boundaries and labels should be enabled.
