Highways tagged as primary and secondary are very hard to see at zoom level 11 and lower. Tertiary, residential and unlassified "disappear" at zoom level 12 as they look just like height curves.
The color and weight should perhaps be more prominent at lower zoom levels for all highways to make orientating oneself easier. Especially when out touring. I believe all highway types were more prominent at low zooms with the style used in 2010. As it is now it is impossible to use zoom 11 to find a route. This is especially a problem in the Nordic countries where you have to lay a route for tens of kms in advance or else you might end up way of your desired course.
