Bridge names are actually not implemented at all in Nominatim. That name:bridge is recognized is an accidental by-product of localized names.
In order to implement that properly, bridge:name should actually replace name (and presumably any localizations) for the bridge place generated from the OSM object (but not for the e.g. the highway place).

I noticed that bridge names are found in Nominatim if they are tagged with name:bridge=*
On the wiki page of the bridge tag (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:bridge) it is documented that bridge names should be tagged as bridge:name=*
Bridges that are tagged with bridge:name=* are, however, not found with Nominatim.
I think the search function of Nominatim should be corrected to include also finding bridges tagged with bridge:name=* .
