Search for the town Villeneuve-la-Garenne in France ( http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details?osmtype=R&osmid=90080 ).
I can't get any result even though it does exist (as the previous link just proves).

Worse, it's autocorrected as "Villeneuve-lousiana-Garenne" on the web interface, see http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search.php?q=Villeneuve-la-Garenne&viewbox=-253.13%2C79.38%2C253.13%2C-68.52

Nominatim has an evil hack to allow finding US states that abbreviate to common articles. Restricted the hack now to cases where IL/LA/AL are properly separated with commas. That should fix the issue except for a few minor edge cases.
