Current rendering of waterways in a tunnel use a blue outline (same #b5d6f1 blue as other waterways, dashed when waterway=canal) with a white fill. Example at [1]. I have had a couple of comments that this is similar to unclassified roads.
Can I suggest that rendering of tunnelled waterways be changed to take inspiration from motorway tunnels [2]. That is a light fill colour should be added. Something like a fill colour of #e0eef9 would work well for waterways.
