OSM attract more and more users... and it's a good thing.
To keep those users active, and to attract new users, it's nice to have more "social" or community features inside the osm website.
Sometimes, you detect new user in your area, and you want to invite them to your community event or to do some remarks about the mapping... but you don't know the language of the user... so you start by English with one or to other languages depending of the country.
I live in Belgium where in small country you can find French, dutch and German as official language...
so please, could we add an indication about user's language(s) in his/her profile.
Something like :
%Username% prefer to be contacted in %LANG%. You can also use %LANG%, %LANG%.

I'm somewhat reluctant to do this because much of the language data we have for users is very low quality as it is largely derived from whatever random rubbish their browser sent when they signed up, or the first time they logged in after we add the language setting.
There's also a privacy question about whether the users have an expectation that we would make this visible.
