I am attempting to use Potlatch 2 on an Ubuntu Linux system, running in the Chromium browser, at a site that requires use of an HTTP proxy to access any external server on port 80.

When P2 starts up, the map never appears---the map area stays blank.

I believe this is due to the proxy requirement, as P2 works fine for me on other systems that don't have to connect through a proxy. (Note that other Flash applications deal with the proxy correctly, too.)

Are you 100% sure? I used to use P2 through a proxy (though on Mac, not Unix) and it seemed fine. P2 isn't using RTMP or Sockets or anything else that bypasses the usual proxy setup.

Neither P2 nor even flash have any responsibility for how HTTP requests are performed - as far as I know flash just asks the browser to do the fetches so if the browser is configured to use a proxy then it should be used for any requests made from Potlatch.

I've now tested in Firefox and Potlatch does indeed use the proxy configured in the browser.

Indeed - if you open up Safari's Activity Viewer you can even see the requests that Flash is making (which is why Safari is great for downloading YouTube videos ;) ).

For what it's worth, I've regularly used Potlatch (both P1 and P2) from behind firewalls, and have never had any problems with the settings getting picked up, on both Ubuntu and my Mac.
