Tried it today with nominatim and openrouteservice.
Of course i can understand it as a programmer, but the query should also return a result for "rothenburg ob der tauber", since this city is pretty well known by the short name "rothenburg" and also famous ;-)

Add short_name=Rothenburg this should make it more accessible with the short name. But Rothenburg is such a common name, I fear it might still be listed quite far below.

sorry, my reaction is a little late. thx for adding the short name, its exactly, what i thought about. Unfortunately, it did not make it into the first 25 hits - so it is still not mentioned. The algorythm is a little bit fuzzy logic, since all the solutions for "rothenberg" are calculated as closer to the term.

datendelphin's comment was actually a recommendation for you to add the short_name tag. The OSM object was still missing the tag. Anyways, added it now and search works as expected. The importance rating has put it nicely in first place.
