Right, so up to a couple of days ago you could select an area to export, the scale to export, and the file format of the export and you could note down the geographical co-ordinates of the exported file.

Now, suddenly and inexplicably, this has been changed to that you can only "export" to a single format, manually selecting the area (giving geographical coordinates), or you can "share" an area, which you can manually choose the area and scale and file format - but without the geographical coordinates - meaning you have to go to Wikimapia to manually establish the geographical extent of the file.

This has to be one of the most unproductive "upgrades" in the history of OpenStreetMap.

I think you are confused - the functionality is now split between the export function (for raw data) and the share function (for links and images) but nothing should have been lost.

You can find the share function from the map controls on the right hand side.

I am not at all confused, actually, fella.
I know how to use the utilities. And they don't work properly any more.

When you manually select an area using the Share function you do not get the geographical coordinates of the area you've selected. When you use the Export function you can manually select the geographical coordinates, but you don't get the option to save it as .png.

It was possible up to a few days ago to Export to png and take down the coords, but now you have to faff about by opening the Export to draw the area to get the coords, and then you have to select Share and draw the same area (as close as possible) to save it as png. And you can't draw the area under Share first, because opening the Export removes the area you've selected under Share. And having both Share and Export open reduces the area of the map you can see to select. I've had to resort to opening Wikimapia and comparing the png map to it to get the coordinates of the png map. Which is quite unnecessary considering how OpenStreetMap utility previously worked.

I can understand your frustration at the change in abilities of the website.

However, we have no plans to change the raster image sharing functionality at this time. If you need a method to acquire map images with precise coordinate information, then you will need to use or develop a different tool.
